The history.
Designed by Pininfarina and bodied by Scaglietti, the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso is widely considered as one of the most elegant Ferraris to ever be produced. Based on the 250, the Lusso was a larger, more luxurious variant that prioritized comfort and looks over pure performance as it was never intended to compete in racing.
The Lusso made use of a 3.0 liter Colombo V12 that made 240hp and 178 ft-lbs of torque that would propel the car to over 150 mph. Inside, Ferrari made use of an altered layout vs previous models by placing the engine further forward, this allowed for a more spacious interior at the expense of some weight distribution. Since the car remained just a two-seater, the rear parcel shelf was larger than normal making the Lusso even more practical. The Lusso, meaning luxury in Italian, was the embodiment of a true grand tourer. The high-end finishes, spacious cabin layout with its large rear parcel shelves for luggage made it the ultimate option for Ferrari customers looking to travel long distances in comfort, speed, and style.
Production of the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso spanned over just two years with only 350 examples produced, ending the 250 generation of Ferraris.

THE CAR.
Chassis #4877
The 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso presented here by Animoya Garage is in excellent restored condition complete with its numbers matching engine, known history from new, and notable previous ownership under Ferrari collector Heinrich Kampfer.
Chassis #4877 was originally completed on August 9th, 1963 and reached United States shores in September, where it was delivered to Luigi Chinetti Motors in New York. It was then sold to official Ferrari dealer Charles Rezzaghi Motors in San Francisco, CA. As per the Masini Report the car was sold to its first private owner, a Mr. Harvey Diemer of Los Altos, CA. The Lusso changed hands several times over the next decade, however, it remained in California the entire time.
In 1980, Chassis #4877 was advertised for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter by Bruce Philips, a General Electric factory representative and Ferrari Owners Club Member, which notated its original color scheme of red over black. Shortly thereafter, in 1981, it was purchased by Count Hubertus von Donhoff of Berlin, Germany who was the founder of the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand Prix at the famed Nurburgring. Donhoff showed the Lusso in June of 1983 at the Ferrari Club Deutschland meet at Hockenheim. He held onto the Lusso until 1985, when he sold it to notable Ferrari collector Heinrich Kampfer, based in Switzerland. Heinrich promptly repainted the car dark blue. Within the first year, Kampfer showed the Lusso at an event in Modena, Italy and repainted the car back to red. Ultimately in 1988, after various shows and meets Kampfer decided to sell Chassis #4877 to Swiss Ferrari dealer Aldo Sonvico.
The Lusso would not appear again for sale for nearly two decades before being offered in 2006 at the Artcurial-Briest-Poulain-Le Fur. F Tajan auction in Paris, France. In 2008 #4877 had its Classiche inspection performed and the Red Book was issued by the Ferrari Factory in March of 2008. In 2010, this example was for sale again at Mirbach Automobile in Hamburg, Germany. Chassis #4877 would lay under the radar for roughly 8 years before being advertised for sale by Tomini Classics in Dubai with an asking price of $2,000,000. It then returned stateside after being sold to a Mr. White of Salt Lake City, Utah in 2018. Mr. White owned the Lusso for roughly 6 years before deciding to part ways with it.
Today, Chassis #4877 presents excellently and is in near concours-quality condition with a restoration that was believed to have been completed prior to it being offered for sale by Tomini Classics in 2018. Upon putting a healthy amount of miles on this example, we are happy to report that it performs as well mechanically as it looks cosmetically. It makes great power in each gear followed by the iconic exhaust note emitted from the Colombo V12. It is truly a special experience being behind the wheel of any 250 Ferrari but the Lusso amplifies that feeling with its finer interior appointments, smooth handling, and comfort at high speeds.
Included in the sale of this 250 GT Lusso is its Ferrari Classiche Red Book, up-to-date Massini report, and tool kit.
