In 1961, Jaguar unveiled what would become one of the most iconic and influential automobiles of the 1960s - The E-Type. Predating the E-Type was the XK140 and XK150 which both achieved great success and laid the groundwork for the project. The E-Type introduced a plethora of technological advancements which were all-new for sportscars of the day. The updates included an independent rear suspension which granted huge improvements in handlings, power-assisted 4 wheel disc brakes, and a monocoque chassis design.
Today, the E-Type remains as one of the most iconic quintessential sports cars that even boasts the fact that Enzo Ferrari himself declared it as the most beautiful car ever made.
The 1966 Jaguar E-Type Roadster, presented by Animoya Garage, is finished in stunning Carmen Red over a full Red interior which is quite uncommon and an absolutely stunning combination.
This fantastic Series 1 E-Type was completed on May 17th, 1966, and was originally finished in Cream over a Black leather interior. According to the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, Mr G. Thornton was the original owner, and forgoed the typical delivery process and arranged to pick up the car at the factory upon completion. We would assume he did this to enjoy his E-Type on the wonderful and hilly British B-roads in the surrounding areas before sending it home to the United States.
The previous owner acquired the car in 2018, the color had been changed and was wearing Carmen Red, with a black interior. After his purchase in the fall of 2018, it was sent to East Coast Restoration, in Finksburg, MD for a thorough mechanical and cosmetic restoration that totalled over $63,000 and spanned roughly the next two years. Additionally, the interior was fully redone in red to match the exterior of the car.
From 2020 forward, European car specialists at Auto Europe in Birmingham, MI took over caretaker duties for the owner. Over the last 4 years they would have numerous issues addressed to dial in this E-Type’s road manners such a full carb rebuild, distributor rebuild, electrical repairs, a rear crank reseal, and fluid changes. Receipts on file for various mechanical repairs total a little over $21,000.
Today, this E-Type remains in the aforementioned Carmen Red over Red configuration and presents very nicely. The paint overall is very nice and the chrome work all around is exceptionally bright and clear with virtually no pitting whatsoever. From a mechanical standpoint, this E-Type is dialed in quite nicely, start ups are quick, oil pressure builds nicely, and once warm it makes great power and drives wonderfully.
Included in the sale of this Series I E-Type is the original tool roll, knock-off hammer, boot cover, and extensive service records.
