The History

In 1973, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 911 Turbo prototype was first teased. One year later, in October of 1974, at the Paris Motor Show, Porsche unveiled the 911 Turbo - internally known as the 930. In its first three years, they would build just 2,850 units.

The early 1975 to 1977 911 Turbo Carrera was equipped with a 3.0 liter, non-intercooled turbo Flat-6. The motor featured forged alloy pistons with Nikasil barrels, a lightweight aluminum crankcase, and a 3 LDZ turbocharger resulting in 260hp and 253lb-ft of torque. This was a staggering increase over the most powerful naturally aspirated 911s of the era which made just 210hp and 188lb-ft of torque. All 930s received dramatic exterior changes as well which included a wider body, forged alloy wheels by Fuchs, and an integrated engine cover-rear spoiler combo.

The Car

The early California-delivered 1977 3.0 liter Turbo Carrera presented here, by Animoya Garage, is finished in the Paint-To-Sample shade of ‘Ivory’ (Color Code 132) over a Dark Brown interior with Sport Seats. This is a rare, Paint-To-Sample Porsche long before PTS was in vogue. The color is very complementing to the dramatic lines of the Turbo presenting as a creamy off-white which is perfectly contrasted by the appropriately 70’s interior color of Dark Brown. The interior is all original and the tone of Dark Brown really presents as more of an attractive clay colored, earthy brown in most lights. The combination is elegant, period-appropriate, and subtle unlike many of the loud PTS colors of today.

The early history of this example is relatively unknown, though we know it was delivered new to California and resided in the state all of its life prior to the previous owner’s acquisition. In completing our research, we were able to dig through old service receipts on-hand to connect with the Northern California couple who owned the car from 2003 to 2012. They first spotted this 930 with a for sale sign on it at a local ‘cars & coffee’ in Rancho Cordova, CA. After arranging a meet up at an automotive repair shop in West Sacramento, they took the car out for a test drive, upon returning they had decided to go forward with the purchase, buying their first ever 911.

At the time of purchase, the car had 54,615 miles and during their ownership the car was serviced at Frank’s Automotive in Sacramento, which is a well-known German repair shop in the area. In an affirmation of condition, the couple noted that the staff would routinely let them know that their example is how a Porsche should be treated.

In 2012, the couple decided to part ways with the Turbo and sell it to a Collector and parttime dealer in Germany. At the time of sale, the car had just 60,913 miles on the odometer and was wearing period-correct magnesium BBS wheels. The car lay dormant in the German collection for years sitting unused but properly stored in a climate controlled facility in Berlin.

In June of 2025, we purchased this Turbo Carrera out of the collection in Berlin, Germany, and imported the car the following month. Once the car was stateside we proceeded with mechanical assessments. Since it had been sitting for so long, we uncovered a handful of engine related and general mechanical problems. Over the next 6 months we refreshed the fuel system, completed the chain tensioner upgrade, installed a new K27 turbo as the old one was unable to be rebuilt, rebuilt the waste gate, added fresh bushings, oil lines, injectors, brakes, new head studs, valve guides, and a full engine reseal to a grand total over $42,000. Everything was done to factory original  specifications and settings.

Today, this matching-numbers Turbo Carrera presents in excellent condition with a fully original interior and just one quality repaint. In referencing Ryan Snodgrass’s compendium book, Turbo 3.0: Porsche’s First Turbocharged Supercar, we can confirm this example possesses most of the hallmarks of originality when compared to benchmark examples within the book. Its original anodized window trim is in excellent shape, factory inspection markings, stickers, coatings, and cosmoline are present in their original places throughout the engine compartment and underside. The book also confirms this example as being a PTS Ivory car and confirms all of its factory options as seen on the COA as well.

After all of the service work was completed and a fresh detail was carried out, we attended ‘Porsche Platica’ with the car. This is a well-done Porsche show in Knoxville, TN that has quickly become a world renowned showcase for the best Porsches in the world. Throughout our weekend showing the car, it was well received by all in attendance! We then took advantage of their proximity to the legendary Tail of The Dragon and road tripped down and back in the same day in order to give the car a full post-mechanical overhaul shake down. Though it's certainly a handful to drive on such a road, it was an extremely memorable experience which leaves us completely confident in this example's mechanical abilities. We were also invited to attend ‘Rare Shades 7’ where the car was showcased among a highly curated selection of rare colored Porsche models. A true testament to its rare specification, condition, and history.

Included in the sale of this 930, are its COA, driver’s manual, tool kit, jack, spare, and service records.
