In need of a rework, Volkswagen set out to rework the Beetle in 1970 with the goal to reduce its total cost, and bring it forward in terms of features. The result was the Super Beetle, which added luggage space, improved utility via updated suspension work, and better performance thanks to a fuel injected 1600cc engine.
Volkswagen would go on to produce the Super Beetle for nearly a decade. In 1979, due to Federal regulations, VW halted production of the convertibles, making the 1979 Super Beetle Convertible an extremely desirable model. For reference, in 1979, Volkswagen built over 1,000,000 cars, and roughly only 10,600 of them came to the U.S as Super Beetle Convertibles.
This particular Super Beetle Convertible offered here, by Animoya Garage, is finished in Mars Red over a Black interior with Woodgrain Dash and displayed just 186 original miles from new.
Much of the earlier history on this example is unknown, however we do know that in 2015 the car entered a private collection on the east coast after being sold by a notable auction house. At the time, this example had 177 miles, meaning that over the course of its over decade long stint with its next owner, the car remained in good care while adding less than 10 total miles to the odometer. To our best knowledge, this example is 100% original, with consistent paint meter readings on the exterior and original finishes and condition in the interior. The undersides of this example is also extremely original and clean with no signs of neglect or decay on any of the surfaces, fully corroborating this Beeltes mileage.
Our client purchased the car from them in 2025 and began preparing the car for sale. In the interest of presenting the best car possible, we went forward with extensive detail totaling to over $4,000 as well as an involved mechanical recondition which totaled just under $10,000. Mechanical work completed was a new clutch, new fuel pump and fuel filter, a NOS fuel tank, suspension work, oil change, and various electronics were addressed as well.
Today, this Volkswagen Super Beetle is in time-capsule condition showing virtually no signs of age or wear due to its meticulous ownership and extremely low mileage. These VWs were extremely common cars which were meant to be enjoyed by normal folks thus, they were built to have many of hundreds of thousands of miles put on them so the fact that this car has less 200, is basically unrepeatable. You would expect to see this type of mileage on a collectible supercar but not a relatively common VW convertible which makes it all the more remarkable.
Included in the sale of this vehicle is the Books, manuals, spare tire, and jack.
